Diabetes is a serious and costly disease. According to the American Diabetes Association as of 2017, nearly 13% of Indiana’s adult population has diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and is a life-long disease where there is high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Type 2 Diabetes is often associated with older age, obesity, family history of diabetes, history of gestational diabetes, impaired glucose metabolism, physical inactivity and race/ethnicity. But research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood glucose (sugar) levels, eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly can lower their risks of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life.
