About 1 in 10 Americans has diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many of those patients also suffer from chronic numbness and burning or stabbing pain in their legs and feet.
Conventional medical approaches such as compression socks, topical creams, and prescription medications don’t always alleviate these symptoms, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved spinal cord stimulation, or SCS, for treatment.
Dr. Silky Patel is an interventional spine, sports and pain management physician in Houston using SCS to help diabetes patients relieve pain.
