The Forbes Health editorial team is independent and objective. To help support our reporting work, and to continue our ability to provide this content for free to our readers, we receive compensation from the companies that advertise on the Forbes Health site. This compensation comes from two main sources. First, we provide paid placements to advertisers to present their offers. The compensation we receive for those placements affects how and where advertisers’ offers appear on the site. This site does not include all companies or products available within the market. Second, we also include links to advertisers’ offers in some of our articles; these “affiliate links” may generate income for our site when you click on them.
The compensation we receive from advertisers does not influence the recommendations or advice our editorial team provides in our articles or otherwise impact any of the editorial content on Forbes Health. Summary
Nutritional Powerhouse In One Simple Scoop
Following the latest science, we source every ingredient for the highest possible quality and efficacy. From vitamins and minerals, to antioxidants and mushroom complex, Athletic Greens can help you own your day!
To use AG1, mix one scoop of the Athletic Greens mixture into 8 ounces of water. The company recommends taking it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. If you don’t want to mix it with water, you can mix it with juice, milk or in a smoothie. The only thing the company advises against is mixing Athletic Greens with hot or highly acidic liquids, as this could affect the integrity and efficacy of some of the ingredients.
While the company recommends taking one scoop per day, it also notes that for short-term periods of high stress or exertion, two servings can be taken (and touted to provide a noticeable difference). Once the package is opened, it needs to be refrigerated and used within 90 days.
Below, we break down the current prices of the AG1 pouch and travel kit. Note that these prices are sourced from the Athletic Greens website, and are subject to change.

One of the most interesting things about AG1 is how many ingredients they actually put into it. There are 75 ingredients, with the most prominent including:
The company notes that although uncommon, a small percentage of new users may experience a temporary upset stomach, which resolves for most after a few days of consistent use. Some people may need to build up to taking one full scoop of Athletic Greens.
After placing an order on the Athletic Greens website, a bag of AG1 arrived within a few days. There was a note in the box (in addition to an email I received) that recommended taking one scoop of AG1 in 8 ounces of water—so that is what I did.
However, I couldn’t drink it because the taste and how it felt in my mouth were terrible (keep in mind, though, taste is subjective). The second day, I opted to mix the powder into a smoothie made with one small individual container of Greek yogurt, one-third cup of 100% pomegranate juice and frozen strawberries. Although the color of the smoothie wasn’t very appealing, and it was still gritty from the scoop of powder, I was able to easily ingest it.
Over the course of the two weeks I went to my regular Orange Theory class three to five times a week, but didn’t feel any different, and I didn’t necessarily have more energy than usual. As a registered dietitian, I was also concerned about the variety of ingredients in the supplement, as some interact with medications I am taking (while I’m in pretty good health, it’s important to keep in mind that you can still have an interaction with common medications, like birth control pills).
In fact, many of the adaptogens in AG1 interact with medications—such as dandelion, which interacts with numerous medications including diabetic medications, lithium, diuretics and certain antibiotics. I could not find a warning or caution listed on the website, so check with your medical doctor or registered dietitian before starting this supplement. Note that the company does state that it does not recommend taking AG1 if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without first consulting your doctor.
I actually felt happy when I stopped taking it, as I felt I was putting unnecessary ingredients in my body.

While the company acknowledges that it tastes differently for everyone, it also claims that its customers say the supplement tastes slightly sweet. Our reviewer, though, found Athletic Greens to taste gritty and not flavorful.
